• Tip: Open eps files with Gimp

    For the past few months I’ve been doing a lot of work editing images in .eps format. Since I really like my Gimp, I spent weeks trying to find a nice way to edit these images with this program, instead of running to Photoshop. Well, I was finally able to find a solution I now share with you.

    The steps you’ll need to follow are actually quite simple:

    1. Download Gimp and install it;
    2. Download Ghostscript and install it;
    3. Go to the  /bin directory of where you installed Ghostscript
    4. copy all .exe files (may be 2 or 3) and paste in Gimp’s main directory (where gimp is installed);
    5. Start gimp and try opening eps files.

    That should do it! If you’re on Linux, just make sure Ghostscript is installed, it should be easy to find in Synaptic for example.

      Thx!

      Just Add…
      Environment variable – System variable:

      Name: GS_PROG
      Value: C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin\gswin32.exe

      xD

      u can open them alreight but i dunno how to adjust the quality of the image/s…i was thinking that it can be a lot better in quality and resolution because the .EPS file is like bigger in size..how can i adjust the quality then?

      Heck yes, thank you! Copying over the environment variable, the path to ghost script didn’t work, so I’m glad this did! Thanks!

      With GIMP 2.8.4 is works out of the box on Windows 32 bit if you tick “Ghostscript” in the installer. On Windows 64 bit, the installer install the 64 bit version of GIMP which doesn’t works.

      Solution: Start the installer with /32 on the command line to force the installation of GIMP 32 bit on 64 bit Windows.
